Objectives of the Degree Programme

Programme Outcomes

Upon completion of the doctor of philosophy degree the candidate will be able to,

A Master of Philosophy Degree in Agriculture, Science, Biosystems Technology or any other related disciplines from a recognized University which is equivalent to SLQF level 11.

or

A Master Degree in Agriculture, Science, Biosystems Technology or any other related disciplines from a recognized University, which is equivalent to SLQF level 9 or 10.

or

A Bachelor’s of Honours Degree of Level 6 in Agriculture, Science, Biosystems Technology or any other related disciplines with a minimum GPA of 3.3 at a scale of 0-4 with or without a qualifying examination as determined by the Senate.

or

A holder of Bachelor’s of Honours Degree of Level 6 who has followed a MPhil degree in Agriculture, Science, Biosystems Technology or any other related disciplines for a minimum period of one year may be upgraded to PhD level provided that his/her research competencies are exceptional merit as recommended by the Board of Study and approved by the Senate.

or

A holder of bachelor’s degree of level 5 in Agriculture, Science, Biosystems Technology or any other related disciplines with a minimum GPA of 3.0   in the scale of 0-4 and successful completion of a qualifying examination which will be conducted after completion of 30 credits equivalent to SLQF 6 in the same or related field and registered to follow an MPhil degree may be upgraded to PhD level after a minimum period of one year provided that his/her research competencies are in exceptional merit.

Application for registration of the PhD Degree is open throughout the year.

 

Prospective candidates should approach and discuss with a potential interim supervisor who should be a member of academic staff attached the Faculty of Agriculture, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka. All the potential interim supervisors should have acquired at least a PhD degree and possess sufficient expertise to supervise studies in the relevant subject area. External supervisors are allowed as directed by the interim supervisor, but their details need not to be submitted along with the application. The Board of Study of Postgraduate Programme reserves the right to change or recommend supervisors to the University Senate for its approval.

 

Applications and scanned supporting documents can be emailed to postgraduate@agri.rjt.ac.lk (recommended). Hard copies of all application materials should be sent to “Assistant Registrar, Faculty of Agriculture, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, Puliyankulama, Anuradhapura” along with a Bank Deposit slip to the value of Rs. 2000.00 written in favour of Faculty of Agriculture, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, Account No. 008-1-001-6-0114574 held at the Peoples’ Bank, Rajarata University Mihinthale indicating the applicant’s name and the address.

 

Following documents should accompany with your application.

1. Certified copies of the educational qualifications

2. Academic transcripts

3. Certified copy of the birth certificate

4. Copy of NIC / passport and two passport size photographs

5. Two letters of recommendation of which one should be from an academic referee

6. Copies of any other documents to support the admission requirements

7. Letter of consent from the interim supervisor along with his/her CV

8. Concept note of the proposed research, including the field of research, the tentative title, purpose/ objectives of research, research methodology along with the name and institutional affiliations of the interim supervisor selected to supervise the research work.

9. Proof of evidence of funds/ financial support to conduct the research work.

10. Proof for payment of application processing fee

11. Declaration of release of the prospective candidate from work by the employer, if applicable
