Objectives of the Diploma Programme

Programme Outcomes

An eligible candidate for registration for the program of study leading to the Postgraduate Diploma in Rural Development must have;


i. A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University

a) Including 30 credits in the areas of STEM and HEMS
or
b) With prior learning/ work experience equivalent to 30 credits in the areas related to rural development, civil works, rural employment, Agricultural extension, Agri business etc.
or

ii. A qualification in the relevant subject area equivalent to 1 (a) or 1 (b)
or
iii. Completion of NVQ level 7 as accepted by the Senate of the RUSL
or
iv. Completion of relevant diploma (NVQ 5 and above) with minimum of five years professional experiences in following relevant fields; National or Provincial National Departments related to Rural Development, Civil Society Organization or other agency that is related to Rural Development.
or
v. Any other equivalent qualification accepted by the Senate of the RUSL


Structure of the Study Programme

This diploma programme consists with course work and project work component basically one year duration in semester system for a full-time student. Minimum duration for a part time student will be four consecutive semesters. The course work includes all key aspects of Rural Development. There is a two-credit project work in the second semester mainly aiming to identify issues in the rural sector and conducting a project independently to find suitable solutions for those issues. The medium of instruction is Sinhala and course is conducted in weekend at the Faculty of Agriculture, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka. Courses shall be evaluated on the basis of continuous assessments (quizzes, reports, assignments, presentations, case studies, etc.) and end-semester examinations.

Requirements to Complete the Study Programme

A student should complete 27 credits with a minimum Grade Point Average of 2.00 in stipulated period prescribed in the governing by-laws. A student should satisfy the examiners on prescribed assessment criteria approved by the Faculty Board on the recommendation of the Board of Study with a satisfactory standard. Students are required to follow 13 credits in the first semester and 14 credits in the second semester. All the course are core courses in this program and compulsory follow.

Those who wish to apply, download the application below or those who wish to obtain application form and instructions by post, should send a 9”x 6” size self-addressed stamped envelope worth of Rs. 200/= addressed to the “Assistant Registrar, Faculty of Agriculture, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, Puliyankulama, Anuradhapura”. Application forms and instructions/details of the degree programme can also be obtained by visiting Faculty of Agriculture, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka. 

 

Following documents should accompany with your application.

• Duly filled and signed application form.
• Certified copies of the educational and professional qualifications.
• Copy of the birth certificate.
• Copy of the National Identity Card.
• Bank deposit slip of Rs. 2000.00 as application processing fee.
• Two letters of recommendations.

• Two passport size photographs.

 

How to apply

Applications and hard copies of supporting documents should be sent to “Assistant Registrar, Faculty of Agriculture, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, Puliyankulama, Anuradhapura” along with a Bank Deposit Slip to the value of Rs. 2000.00 written in favour of Faculty of Agriculture, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, Account No. 008-1-001-6-0114574 held at the Peoples’ Bank, Anuradhapura branch indicating the applicant’s name and the address.
